Recommendations and Operator Obligations
for PV Systems and Battery Storage
The operator of a photovoltaic system with battery storage is obliged to regularly monitor, maintain and comply with the manufacturer's specifications. The following points represent the most important recommendations and operator obligations:
1. Regular Visual Inspection (min. 1–2× per year)
The operator should regularly visually inspect the PV system, in particular:
- Condition of PV modules (soiling, leaves, snow, bird droppings, shading)
- Visual inspection of cables, connectors and mounting structure
- Check of the inverter (ventilation openings, environment free of dust and objects)
- Visual check of the meter cabinet and fuses
Any abnormalities must be reported to the installer immediately in writing.
2. Cleaning of PV Modules
PV modules are largely maintenance-free, nevertheless:
- Cleaning only in case of heavy soiling or yield loss
- No aggressive cleaning agents
- No high-pressure cleaners
- Use only soft water / demineralized water
- Cleaning ideally by a specialist company (especially for hard-to-reach roofs)
3. Operational Control via Monitoring
The operator is obliged to regularly monitor the system via the monitoring system:
- Daily and monthly production
- Error messages / warnings
- Status of battery storage
- Firmware notices from manufacturers
Irregularities must be reported in writing.
4. Maintenance and Control of the Inverter
- Ensure that the inverter is adequately ventilated
- Keep environment dust-free
- Do not place objects on or in front of the device
- Regular check whether error codes or warnings are displayed
- Firmware updates according to manufacturer specifications
The operator may not open covers himself.
5. Maintenance and Monitoring of Battery Storage
- Ensure room temperature between 5–30 °C (depending on manufacturer)
- Protect storage from moisture and dust
- No mechanical shocks or vibration
- No unauthorized interventions or mounting changes
- Regular check via monitoring app
- Report all abnormalities immediately and in writing
6. Keep Documentation
The operator must keep the following documents for possible guarantee and insurance cases:
- Commissioning protocol
- Circuit and system plans
- Manufacturer guarantee documents
- Inspection and maintenance protocols
- Ongoing error and monitoring logs
7. No Own Work – No Interventions by Third Parties
Without written approval from the installer, the following are prohibited:
- Opening devices (inverter, storage, controller)
- Rewiring, extensions, repairs
- Connection of additional consumers or generators
- Changes to parameterization
Unauthorized interventions lead to exclusion of guarantee and warranty.
8. Obligation for Proper Fault Reporting
Faults must be reported exclusively in writing and officially:
- Email: service@woltanic.de
- Website: www.woltanic.de → Ticket system
Reports via WhatsApp, private telephone numbers or social media are not valid and will not be processed (according to GTC).
9. Insurance and Safety Aspects
- Operator is obliged to inform building insurance about the PV system
- Have PV system regularly checked for storm, fire and overvoltage damage
- Regularly check overvoltage protection (by specialist company)
10. Annual Maintenance (Recommendation)
Once a year it is recommended:
- Check of all electrical connections
- Measurement of system safety (VDE-compliant)
- Check of battery storage
- Function test of inverter, data logger, meter
- Visual inspection of mounting system and DC lines
Summary – Most Important Operator Obligations
The operator is responsible for:
- regular control + monitoring
- cleanliness of modules and ventilation areas
- compliance with all manufacturer instructions
- safe operating conditions
- written and official fault reporting
- no unauthorized interventions
- maintenance and monitoring of battery storage
- documentation and keeping of all documents
